Welcome to Judith Russell Counselling
Compassionate counselling in a safe, private and understanding environment
Experience working with neurodivergent individuals and families
My name is Judith, and I am a counsellor offering both short- and long-term therapy, as well as therapeutic coaching, for adults and young people in Hitchin, North Hertfordshire. I also offer online sessions via Microsoft Teams.
Having worked for many years supporting families with neurodivergent conditions and other disabilities or additional needs, I have seen first-hand how the many challenges they face can significantly affect individuals’ emotional well-being and mental health.

Now as a counsellor I continue to do that and also help you manage anxiety, depression and other mental health concerns with understanding and empathy.
I am an accredited registrant of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and have the King’s Trust Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, the Certificate in Coaching for Counsellors from the Association of Coaching and a National Autism Training Programme (NATP) certificate.I have volunteered for national and local bereavement support charities.
I am passionate about the power of providing a safe, calm space with no judgement but with understanding, care and empathy for your situation.
I work with parents trying to help their children with autism, ADHD or AuDHD feel safe, be able to regulate and to fulfil their potential whilst appreciating and giving space to the impact on the family as a whole.
I help parents with a therapy-based approach, often blended with coaching and psycho-education as suits each person's need.
I have supported many through their journey of diagnosis, understanding and acceptance, often with the challenges of communicating with others and seeking out and securing the support and services they need.
As a qualified counsellor, I work to help neurodivergent individuals with anxiety, depression and burnout, recognising the frustration and exhaustion of trying to meet the demands of this neurotypical world. This also includes supporting individuals with autism and ADHD, helping them feel understood and valued for who they are.
I have supported young people in and out of education with a mix of therapy, coaching and psycho-education, aiming to help them understand more about themselves and be able to self-advocate.
People come to me for support with a wide range of issues. Here are some of the more common difficulties that can be helped through counselling:
Feelings of stress or anxiety
Panic attacks
Relationship problems
Grief, loss or bereavement
Burnout and exhaustion
Autism, ADHD and AuDHD support

As a Pluralistic counsellor, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to best support my clients. I work in a highly collaborative, flexible and open way, led by the client and will use a range of approaches including cognitive behavioural tools, Solution Focus strategies and coaching techniques if they seem helpful to the individual.
I work in a person-centred way, prioritising open communication and ensuring we agree on an approach that feels comfortable for you.
I aim to create a listening, supportive and safe space for you to explore the issues, worries and challenges on your mind.
For regular sessions, each session lasts 50 minutes, takes place on a weekly or fortnightly basis and costs from £55 per session.
I also provide single session work to help specifically with your current situation and help you create an action plan. This generally involves some emailed information from you in advance of a longer 60–90 minute session and then a follow up at a time agreed. Charging to be agreed at the time but based on an hourly rate of from £55.
Discounted fee for counselling students in training.

I take payment by transfer the day before the session and have a 24-hour notice cancellation policy.
